Weekend Escapade - 32 + 70 km

Not doing enough biking for the past month, i decided to go out for a gentle build up.

Anyhow, went for dinner with an instructor friend of mine to my favourite Restaurant in TTDI for carbo loading the day before. The next day, went out for a gentle ride round Bukit Damansara with a new acquaintance (Jaja) as she wanted to get the feel of the Tuesday nite route. She did well to follow me around. Not getting enough distance, went up into Kiara road track and finish off the ride after 2 hours. Distance covered 32km with lotsa hill climbs.

Not feeling enough of the torture, next day pack up to go an ride up to Bentong with the PCC boys and girls. Total distance - 70km from Genting Sempah. Its also an excuse for my to try out my new road bike ( a collectors item Bianchi/Liquigas Team issue). Actually Boon Foo and gang wanted me to ride with them from Hospital orang Asli, which will add up another 32km, but since I wasn't sure of myself (after more then 1 month of not cycling), i chicken out and went with the short ride, which incidentally was the more sane choice i come to find out eventually.

The speed of ride to Bentong was fast, although we did stop at Hot spring to regroup, we arrived in Bentong in about 1 hour. Climbing back from Bentong was however a different story altogether, I was with the front peloton for only about 22km but was out of breath for the next 7km and fell back. Bernard, Adzim and the Don was insanely fast. I nearly bonked out 5 km from Genting Sempah just after Janda Baik junction. Adrian who started from Hospital Orang Asli passed me at this point with his constant pace with no signs of tiredness. In fact, it felt as if I was running out of gear just trying to climb the plateau 2 km before Genting Sempah. I was thinking to myself, don't tell me this bike (which is only 3 pounds heavier then my Specialize Tarmac) is really that heavy for me not to be able to push through. I arrived back at Genting Sempah at 11:20 am.......eventually. 35 km in 1 hour 50 minutes, damn that is slow.

Moral of story, don't stop biking unless you want to suffer.

tryathlete: A collector? Well, I do have you as my mentor. But then, u are one up:- U have a Trek, Specialize and a Cervelo ;-).

To use the Bianchi in Tuesday nite ride.....errr, lemme get back my strength. I don't think its a bike that I wanna climb with.
